New, unused single-speed reduction gearbox for the BMW i3. This is the fixed-ratio gear unit that sits between the electric motor and the rear axle, transferring drive torque to the wheels and carrying the integrated differential.
The i3 gearbox is a common wear point on higher-mileage cars. Typical symptoms of a failing unit include:
- A rising whine or howl that changes with road speed
- Rumbling or growling under load and on overrun
- Metallic knocking on drive/coast transitions
- Gear oil weeping from the housing or shaft seals
- Debris or metal particles found in the drained gear oil
Replacing the gearbox with a new unit restores quiet, smooth drivetrain operation and avoids the risk of a failed bearing damaging the electric motor assembly alongside it.
Fitment
Suits BMW i3 models from 2015 to 2022, including both battery-electric and range extender versions. Please confirm your vehicle’s VIN with us before ordering so we can verify the correct part number for your car.
Warranty
12 months or 20,000 km, whichever comes first. Warranty covers manufacturing and material defects on the supplied part. Correct installation, correct gear oil fill and correct torque values are the responsibility of the installing workshop – in case of forensic check due warranty claim, if defect was caused by wrong instalation warranty refund will be canceled.
Installation notes
Fitting requires removal of the rear drive unit and must be carried out by a workshop qualified to work on high voltage vehicles. Gear oil is not supplied with the unit unless stated otherwise. We recommend renewing the driveshaft seals and mounting hardware at the same time.
